Heroes Lore: Wind of Soltia
Heroes Lore: Wind of Soltia also know as HLWS is a big hit rpg mobile game in Korea. The second part of the game was also released in Korea subtitle Knight of the Frozen Sea very soon after. RPG title were never a famous genre in the western countries and there is no huge demand for it, but still Hands-on mobile decided to brought this amazing rpg title here for those mobile rpg fans. So, just how good can a mobile rpg game compare to the console? Read on..
Heroes Lore: Wind of Soltia plays just like any classic rpg game, if you ever play one before then you will immediately feel at home. The story focus on the main character Ronin, a young adventurous boy who wants to be a knight. After completing the story once, two extra character will be available to play. This add extra value to an already very long game. The story is not too complicated, but it execute very well. You will be traveling to different places, meet different people and gather new information. There are some long dialogues involved in the game.
This game is made for huge rpg fans that enjoy interacting with the game world. You’ll be moving around in top down view wherever you go, when you engage with an enemy, you attack directly on spot by pressing action/5 key. It’s more like a ARPG than a turn-based RPG, but you don’t have to worry about the
attack direction. As long as you are beside an enemy, all you have to do is press the action key and your character will automatically face on the enemy. There are two types of attack, physical attack and spell attack. Before you start the game, it let you choose 2 guardians out of three. These guardians are your sources of spell attack or support. As you can see from the screenshot, there is two magic slot available at the left bottom of the screen. You can move your magic to the quick slot by equipping on the status screen. Each guardian have few different skill as they level ups. Don’t worry about the lack of magic spell, as you travel you will find more guardians to aid you in your adventure. But still the primary weapons you will be using is your handy sword, sword attack has also been separate into quick and heavy attack. By pressing these two button in different combination also results in different attack combos. You can buy weapons, items such as potions at all cities shop. Special items can also be collected outside the city. There is also a chance to improve your weapons. We played a lot of rpg game especially those western RPG always have level gap preventing you from advancing further. There is no such restriction in Heroes Lore, you can level up as much as you want. When you gain a new level, you can distribute points to your character hit point, power, attack, defense, agility, will..etc.
Let’s be honest, the graphics in the game isn’t the best we seen in mobile games but it still looks real good with wide variety of designs. But what’s better than the graphics is the sounds. If you are playing the game, I recommend you the on the sound as it provides different experiences when you off it. Wherever you go there’s always melody playing at the background and of course sword slashing sound when you are attacking enemy.
The world of Heroes Lore is extremely big, at least for a mobile game. It’ll probably takes you more than 10 hours to complete and more if you decide to do all the side quest. If you want to compare to other games on the console, it’s actually longer than many of them. Enemy always reappeared after you defeated, so it’s almost never ending in the battlefield, if you would like to make your game progress faster. Try to avoid all enemies and run to your next destination, unless you are a level ups freak like me. Beside your standard minions, you will encounter what we call big boss in the game. And it’s real hard to defeat them. You have to find the boss weaknesses and attack pattern just like other old school action game. Rockman.. you know? There is quite some rpg games around not to say none such as Fantasy Warrior 2 we reviewed before, Might and Magic II and Black Citadel II..etc. These are all pretty good RPG games around but it’s nowhere the length of Heroes Lore. Yes, it’s that long consider you are playing it on your cell phone. It’ll only make the time longer than playing in front of a TV.
Heroes Lore: Wind of Soltia packed all classic RPG elements in one package that any RPG fans couldn’t ask for more. Especially on a mobile, that’s even rare. Decent storyline, good sounds and exciting adventure will provide any gamers with countless of fun. The game sounds complicated with many different thing we can do, but it actually play out really simple and most importantly it works well on a mobile phone. If you have a slight interest in mobile RPG, you should keep track on this game when the second part release worldwide.
Score: 8.9/10
