There are scholarships available for single mothers. In these modern times, teen pregnancy is on the rise; children having children. Many times teenagers will find themselves pregnant and unable to get their high school diploma. Already they have a strike against them – a lack of proper education. Many schools recognize the plight of these young women and are willing to offer scholarships to help defray the cost of attending school.
How can you find the right scholarship for you? There are many scholarships for single mothers but finding the right one for you can be difficult to locate.
Start by looking at what your local college or university has to offer. There are some colleges and/or universities that require their students to attend full time. Some insist that a dependent child live in the same home as the single mother. Also there are many schools that will want proof of financial need before providing a scholarship to the single mother.

Not only do young teenagers have the stigma of having children at such an early age but their need to complete a full education is ever more important. Many schools require completion of high school or successful completion of a GED course. Once the primary education has been successfully completed, than applying for a scholarship is the next step.
When approved for a scholarship the single mother will have to prepare herself to return to school by setting realistic goals. No longer can she be concerned about herself and her time available for herself. She is a mother and time will need to be spent with her family as they will also need to make adjustments, such as having to enter childcare.
Priorities will need to be set in place. Boundaries firmly established. Study habits will need to be improved on and classroom attendance is very important. In addition, single mothers will find themselves very concerned about their offspring in a stranger’s care since many single mothers do not have the privilege of having family member watch their child(ren).
Attending college is notorious for parties. A single mother should not indulge in those free times as that would mean their child’s time is taken away from their mother. If grades are not kept to the school’s expectations than a single mother may lose that scholarship, thereby free money.
There are scholarships for single mothers but it will require searching deep for the right one that will fit your needs. Once that is accomplished than the single mother will need to make up her mind that her goals in life not only will affect her but will also affect her child(ren). She has to develop the mindset that she wants the best for her family and that will mean setting up some boundaries and not set realistic goals for herself.
