Nokia Reveals New Nokia N97 Mini & Two new Touchscreen line-up
The largest cell phones maker had just announced their next line-up. First, let’s take a look at the new N97 mini, as the name implies it’s a smaller & thinner version of the original N97 smartphone. The smaller version of the smartphone means that less battery life, smaller memory size (8GB compare to the original 32GB) & smaller touch screen. Unfortunately, the price isn’t much cheaper, the list price is $639. And the full fledged N97 is currently selling for $700 in the US.
Nokia did not release any specification information for the N97 mini, so we are not sure if there’s any improvement on the hardware side. As for the software, it’s pretty much the same, N97 mini will also comes with music service integrated which increase the cost of Nokia N97 mini. The service allows users to download free music. The only changes in the new mini would be a tighter integration with popular social netmarking site, facebook. You can update your facebook account location & status directly through Nokia Ovi account. This is an exclusive Nokia deal with Facebook.
The cell phone maker also announced two new touchscreen music phones: The X3 and the X6. We don’t have much info on this cell phone yet, but it will be the next Nokia flagship music phone. The X6 comes with 32GB of built-in memory and expect to ship in the 4th quater this year for $639.
It seems like Nokia isn’t innovating their phone at all, most of their upcoming release is just another touchscreen phone on the market with higher tag price. I’m guessing they are trying to market their product as branded gadgets. And all we can hope for is that the end product worth the price. Today’s, Nokia is still the largest cell phone maker with close 40% worlwide market. But it has since been losing its market share to iphone & Sony Ericsson. Nokia is particularly faced tough challenges in the US with virtually non-existent relationship with the local carrier.
This is another reason why Nokia is trying hard to diversify their business into services market such as music downloads, games, and maps. And they created the Ovi service as the repository for all these services. Nokia also recently announced that they will be making their own line of Netbook, dubbed the Nokia Booklet 3G.
